And Yosef was brought down to Mitzrayim [Egypt]; and Potiphar, the eunuch of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hands of the Yishma’elim [Ishmaelites], who had brought him down there.
And Yahuah was with Yosef, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
And his master saw that Yahuah was with him, and that Yahuah made all that he did prosper in his hand.
And Yosef found favor in the sight of his master, and sharat [ministered/served] him; and he set him over his house, and all that he had he gave into the hand of Yosef.
And it came to pass, after he had made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that Yahuah blessed the Egyptian’s house for Yosef’s sake; and the blessing of Yahuah was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.
And he left all that he had in Yosef’s hand; and he did not concern himself with anything except the bread which he ate. And Yosef was handsome in form and beautiful in appearance.
And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Yosef, and said, “Lie with me.”
But he refused, and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.
There is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great ra [wickedness], and chatat [sin] against Elohim?”
And though she spoke to Yosef day by day, he did not listen to her, to lie with her or to be with her.
And it came to pass on Yom Echad [one day], that Yosef went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house were inside.
And she caught him by his beged [garment/robe], saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, fled, and went outside.
And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside,
that she called the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew servant to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.
And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, fled, and went outside.”
And she laid up his garment by her until his master came home.
And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you brought to us, came in to mock me.
And when I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled outside.”
And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, “After this manner did your servant to me,” that his anger was kindled.
And his master took Yosef, and put him into the beit ha-sohar [prison], the place where the king’s prisoners were confined; and he was there in the beit ha-sohar.
But Yahuah was with Yosef, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
And the keeper of the prison committed to Yosef’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatever they did there, he was the doer of it.
The keeper of the prison looked not to anything that was under Yosef’s hand, because Yahuah was with him; and whatever he did, Yahuah made it prosper.
