After these things, Elohim tested Avraham and said to him: “Avraham!” He said: “Hineni [Here I am].”
He said: “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love — Yitzchak [Isaac] — and go to the land of Moriah. Offer him there as an olah [whole burnt offering] on one of the mountains I will show you.”
Avraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, took two of his young men with him, and Yitzchak his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and went to the place Elohim had told him.
On the third day Avraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off.
Avraham said to his young men: “Stay here with the donkey. I and the lad will go yonder, worship, and return to you.”
Avraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Yitzchak his son. He took in his hand the fire and the ma'achelet [sacrificial knife/cleaver], and the two went together.
Yitzchak said to Avraham his father: “My father.” He said: “Hineni, my son.” He said: “Behold the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Avraham said: “Elohim will provide Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So they went together.
They came to the place Elohim had told him. Avraham built the mizbeach [altar], arranged the wood, aqad [bound] Yitzchak his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
Avraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
But the malakh Yahuah [angel of Yahuah] called to him from heaven: “Avraham, Avraham!” He said: “Hineni.”
He said: “Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear Elohim, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
Avraham lifted up his eyes and saw a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. Avraham went, took the ram, and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.
Avraham called the name of that place Yahuah-Yireh [Yahuah will provide], as it is said to this day: “In the mount of Yahuah it shall be provided.”
The malakh Yahuah called to Avraham a second time from heaven,
And said: “By Myself I have sworn, says Yahuah, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son,
Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your zera [seed/descendants] as the stars of the shamayim and as the sand on the seashore. Your zera shall possess the gates of their enemies.
In your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
Avraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Be’er-Sheva [Well of the Oath], and Avraham dwelt there.
After these things it was told to Avraham: “Behold, Milkah has also borne sons to Nahor your brother:
Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram [the Arameans], Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
Bethuel fathered Rivkah [Rebekah]. These eight Milkah bore to Nahor, Avraham’s brother.
His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Ma’akah.”
